Working Together and Advocating for Our Communities

I'm thrilled to share that I recently received a wonderful appreciation gift from the Williamston Sunrise Rotary for my leadership as their Ingham County Commissioner. They acknowledged my advocating for securing funding from Ingham County Parks and Trails Millage. This funding will improve the entire community's access to the Red Cedar River, making it more enjoyable for everyone without worrying about logjams.

It is a beautiful wooden bowl handcrafted from a log jam in the Red Cedar River, and I will always cherish it!

"We, the Williamston Area Senior Center, can't begin to express the gratitude we feel for everything Monica Schafer has done to help us secure the funding from the Elder Service millage to purchase our new building.  She found that there were funds that hadn't been allocated from the Elder Service millage, which allowed our Director, Julie Rudd to work with all the Ingham County Commissioners including Monica to acquire these funds."

Community Teamwork!

When I first ran and was elected as Ingham County Commissioner in 2022,

I spoke to the seniors and understood their need for a new senior facility to expand critical services in our area. The seniors were very blessed to have the Commons and call it home for 10 years, completely rent-free. But we all understood that they were outgrowing their home and needed a home to expand critical services and their membership and be accessible for all on one level.

As your Ingham County Commissioner, I was appointed to the Tri-County of Aging Board.  As the Ingham County Commissioner, I identified Elder Millage Funds that were not allocated and understood the vital needs of our senior community, and had the backing of a strong Williamston Senior Center Leadership Board. Together with the Williamston Senior Center, the Williamston Sunrise Rotary, Ingham County Commissioners, and the larger community, this collective effort brought $750,000 of Elder Millage funds back to our senior community, enabling the Williamston Senior Center to have a new home. This is a testament to the community's power, and I'm deeply grateful for everyone's support and involvement in this vital initiative!

I look forward to a Celebration! The Taste of Williamston will be held at the new Williamston Senior Center on October 22, 2024, from 5:30 to 8:00.

Thank you for your mentorship, friendship, and guidance throughout the last two years and for trusting me to enter a position you have honored for 38 years.

I am beyond thankful!

“ Citizens seldom have an opportunity to vote for an electoral official who has consistently demonstrated integrity, thoughtfulness, public dedication, fiscal responsibility, and the demeanor to work with others.

We have that opportunity when we cast our vote for Commissioner Monica Schafer.”
